Voltammetric analysis of human hair samples

The investigation of trace elements levels in human hair is a source of basic information for biological, medical, environmental and forensic sciences. A review of 70 abstracts devoted to voltammetric (VA) analysis of hair for the period of 1995-2000 years has been made. The most part of the investigations was performed in China. The main trends in VA- analysis - variants of VA methods (adsorptive, stripping, catalytic), types of electrodes, determined elements (24 essential and toxic) and drugs were revealed. VA-method attracts analysts by remarkable sensitivity, speciation capabilities and low cost. The authors propose simple and sensitive VA - procedures for determination of both essential (zinc, copper, iodine) and toxic trace elements (cadmium, lead) in human hair samples.
