An inverse linear problem of heat energy variation was formulated as a quadratic programming problem with linear restrictions on the unknowns. The problem was solved using a program of the conjugate gradients technique developed earlier for gravity problems. The efficiency of the algorithm obtained is illustrated with model examples and by solving a problem on the evaluation of the effect of a basic intrusion on the temperature distribution in the sedimentary cover. -Journal summary
