N2 - The article deals with the problem of identification of the address as a separate speech act in the process of communication. Terms of address are special communicative units which convey the message from the speaker to the listener and express the addresser's emotions and attitude to the addressee. Besides, the units have locutionary (pronouncing the address), illocutionary (the purpose and the intention of the addresser), perlocutionary (motivation of the interlocutor to action) effects. Since the address has these effects, therefore, this phenomenon may be considered as an independent speech act.
