Separation of alkaline metals in gallam-exchange systems

Researches on separation of couples of alkaline metals Li and Na, Li and K, K and Na in gallam-exchange systems have been carried out. Kinetic parameters of an element exchange reaction and parameters of a decomposition of lithium (potassium) gallam in aqueous solutions of hydroxides of alkaline metals were determined. It was found that in gallam systems the rate of exchange process considerably exceeds the rate of decomposition process, and it is possible to state, that the multiple multiplication of single-pass effect of separation is possible in them. The values of separation factors of couples of alkaline metals (that were stated above) in gallam-exchange systems at various temperature and concentration of exchange phases were determined. It is established, that the high values of separation factors in gallam systems allow to receive a considerable clearing of alkaline metals from each other (95÷99%) already at single-pass realization of exchange. As a whole, good kinetics of an element exchange, the high values of a separation factor of alkaline metals (lithium, potassium, sodium) in examined gallam-exchange systems and ecological safety of gallam method specify on perspectivity of its use for separation and clearing of alkaline metals.
