Repetitive linear induction accelerators for high-current electron devices

We present two different versions of linear induction accelerators (LIAs) operating in the repetitive mode. The common elements in these versions are the induction system assembled of identical cores with one-turn winding on each core and strip forming lines placed around the induction system. These elements are installed within the cylinder tank of the same radial size for both versions. The traditional scheme of the LIA includes the multi-channel spark gap connected to the LIA unit that discharges the forming lines through the induction system resulting in electron beam generation. Such version of the LIA is more compact, lighter and cheaper. The parameters of electron beams are: beam current 12 kA, voltage 400 kV, repetition rate frequency-up to 50 Hz. The dimensions of the described LIA section are 700 mm diameter and 900 mm length at the weight of 800 kg. The other scheme of the LIA includes the magnetic pulse generator and magnetic switch for the strip line charging and commutation. In comparison with the traditional scheme of the LIA, this one provides higher rep-rate frequencies. The parameters of electron beams are: beam current 6 kA, voltage 400 kV, repetition rate frequency continuously 50 Hz, repetitively 400 Hz, in bursts mode up to 3,3 kHz. The dimensions of the LIA with magnetic elements are 700 mm diameter and 1900 mm length at the weight of 1800 kg. This LIA allows changing the output voltage pulse polarity for 15 minutes without drainage of transformer oil. Electrons kinetic energy can be increased by means of employing 2-6 accelerating modules.
