Radiation therapy in patients with locomotor system tumors after organ-preserving surgery with implants from titanium alloys

Investigations to evaluate the character of dose distribution of gamma-radiation are carried out, the analysis of calculations by Monte-Karlo method is made. Gamma-therapy was conducted in 6 patients with malignant and benign neoplasms of the locomotor system after non-radical and conditioned radical organ-preserving operations followed by installation of metal designs from titanium alloys. The course of radiotherapy in a standard regimen was applied in a postoperative period to prevent local relapses. The value of a single focal dose (SFD) was from 40 to 60 Gy. The radiation induced changes of the normal tissues including expressed skin hyperpigmentation, subcutaneous fat sclerosis and sclerosis of soft tissues are noted in the radiation exposed area on the level of metal plates arrangement at years 1.5-3 after completion of radiotherapy. Clinical observations has convincingly shown the necessity of calculations and analysis of dose distributions of 60Co gamma-radiation with energy of 1.25 MeV when using nonmagnetic titanium alloys in patients.
