A computer method making possible predictive assessments of the prospects of structures and areas for oil and gas exploration work has been developed. Paleotectonic reconstructions of density sections and paleotemperature modeling of the sedimentary stratum served as the basis for density modeling of the sedimentary section in the gravity field using normal σ(H) patterns. The method was tested in the Dagi, Uini and Daiekhurie deposits in the Nabil depression on Sakhalin. This work revealed zones favorable for the accumulation of hydrocarbons. The stratigraphic strata were zoned with respect to favorable conditions for the generation and preservation of hydrocarbons. Structures and areas were assessed on the basis of the degree of best prospects for finding oil and gas.
