Powder sintering and dilatometric studies of Fe-Ni invar alloys

Аннотация

The paper addresses the study of thermal expansion of alloys fabricated by sintering of Fe and Ni powders. The phase composition and structure of the sintered alloys are found to correspond to invar alloys. The Fe-Ni alloys sintered using Ni and Fe powders exhibit the FCC structure with parameters similar to those of invar alloys. In case of low Ni concentration of 30-32 wt %, a BCC phase can be observed. The thermal expansion coefficient of the microstructure depends on Ni concentration: at 30-35 wt % Ni it decreases from 18 u 10-6 up to 1.5 u 10-6, and at higher Ni concentration it increases insignificantly. Measurement of the thermal expansion coefficient of the sintered Fe-35 wt % Ni alloys reveals two sections in the dependence of the change in the sample elongation against temperature. These sections are characterized by different CTE, and the inflection point of about 233°C corresponds to Curie temperature.
