It is known that the interaction between jets of high-temperature gas and various materials may involve the ablation of those materials as a result  of chemical erosion (in the presence of chemically active components in the jet), partial melting in case the level of heat loads is sufficient for heating the material to the temperature T exceeding its temperature Tm, and the evaporation of the melt. The traditional concepts of the mechanism of ablation of materials under conditions of interaction with high-temperature gas flows alone cannot provide an explanation of the experimental results of [2, 3], which corroborate the promise held by the use of high-temperature heterogeneous jets for cutting and punching various structural materials (including metals and alloys). This study is aimed at more specifically defining (as a result of numerical investigation) the mechanism of destruction of some structural materials under conditions of interaction with a jet of high-temperature gas.
