This article describes a multichannel ring commutator in which parallel spark channels develop in a single gas-filled volume. A plate with a sharp tip in asymmetric position with respect to the main electrodes is the triggering electrode. The commutating current amounts to 0. 4 MA at a switching voltage of 1 Mv. The commutator works in a mixture of SF//6 and nitrogen in the ratio 1:10 under a pressure of 0. 5 MPa.
