Iron alloys surface modification by plasma formed during electric explosion of aluminum foil

The results obtained in the study of the elemental and phase composition, as well as the defect substructure of iron alloys surface layer (armco-iron and steel 45), subjected to electroexplosive alloying by aluminum, are presented. The formation of nanosized particles of the second phase based on aluminum and iron (iron aluminides and aluminum–carbide) has been revealed. It was shown that the modification of steel 45 structure is accompanied by magnification of microhardness (4 times) and durability (3 times) of the surface layer.
