Correlation between the oxidation rate of a hard-alloy tool materials and their wear resistance is studied by the methods of positron and infrared spectroscopy. It is shown that the polyoxide structures, produced due to oxygen interaction with the hard alloy components, have strong effect on the wear resistance of cutting tools. The investigations are carried out with the composition materials of the system of tungsten carbide-cobalt.
