Аннотация

The investigation of polyethelene of low density (PELD) has been carried out. PELD is widely used as an insulation material in high-voltage electrophysics installations. PELD samples with the thickness of 0.4-0.7 mm were irradiated by 10 MeV protons at the room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The path of protons exceeded the thickness of samples. It has been established that the change of microstructure influence significantly upon the service life of polyethelene in a strong electric field. The increase of concentration of non-saturated bonds leads to the reduction of service life more than by order with absorbed radiation doses corresponding to the beginning of the process of destructing polyethelene macromolecules. The decrease of service life may be attributed to the reduction of activation energy of destruction process.
