The transfer of energy from a microwave generator to a load is studied with resonant compression of the output signal from the generator through storage of the signal energy in a volume cavity with subsequent rapid delivery to the load. The dependence of the energy transfer efficiency and gain of microwave compressors arranged in "straight-through" circuits and in circuits with a combined energy input-output element on the duration of the signal from the generator is studied for different intrinsic quality factors of the cavity and durations of the output signal. The variations in the transfer efficiency are compared with the corresponding variations in the storage efficiency. It is shown that in a "straight-through" microwave compressor circuit the maximum transfer efficiency and maximum gain do not coincide with the maximum storage efficiency.
