Dielectric properties of polyoxide structures produced on the hard alloys surface after pre-treatment with power ion beam

Investigations of dielectric properties of polyoxide structures formed on the surface of hard alloys (VK4 and VK8) under high-temperature oxidation have been carried out. It is established that preliminary surface treatment with power ion beam has an effect on oxidation kinetics and results in increase of the polyoxide layer relative permeability. The correlation between polyoxide layer dielectric properties and wear resistance of cutting tools manufactured from ion-beam treated hard alloys was found, so that adhesion wear of cutting tools decreases as relative permeability and dielectric loss tangent of the surface oxide films increase. Wear resistance of these cutting tools was studied in cutting the chromium-nickel steel Kh17N13M2T at the lathe.
