Аннотация

A method is developed for describing the structure of disordered media and the thermodynamics of crystal melting. A model is constructed for amorphous materials by the translation of the tetrahedral cell along some section of a three-dimensional sphere. The method of geodesic mapping used here enables developing a model of discontinuous medium in E3 space with a structure, which depends only on the average packing density of the atoms. It is shown that the transformation into the curved space changes the free energy of the system. It is indicated that decreasing curvature of the space permits one to describe heating of the crystal, whereas increasing the curvature permits one to describe cooling of the crystal. Melting ensues at the point where the free energies of the two phases are equal.
