In the present paper movable cellular automata (MCA) method was applied for investigation of features of damages generation and fracture process of the lignite. The computer-aided simulation of standard experimental tests - uniaxial loading - was carried out. Cylindrical specimens with standard size were tested. Results of calculations show that mechanism of fracture of different coal categories turns from purely brittle to quasi-plastic. On the base of obtained data an analysis of the influence of lignite composition on fracture and strength of cylindrical specimens was carried out.
