The changes in optical properties of K-208 borosilicate glasses doped with cerium oxide upon irradiation by electrons under conditions where accompanying discharges do or do not occur where studied. Under steady-state conditions of electron radiation at medium or high energies, oxygen-containing glasses doped with cerium were found to be stable. The results of studies of the pulse effect show that in the primary processes of interaction between ionizing radiation and a glass, a much larger number of types of radiation color centers are formed than under steady-state conditions. Judging from the optical absorption, the short-term optically active defects are associated with the presence of aluminum and sodium in K-208 glass.
