    The pseudospark switch is a high-voltage switching device that depends on a low-pressure gas discharge with cold cathode. The switch consists of an anode, a hollow cathode and a trigger unit placed typically inside the cathode cavity to provide an electron flux into the main gap for triggering. A ceramic-metal sealed-off switch design with a trigger unit based on flashover is described. The device is intended to commute a current of the order of 100 kA at the anode voltage up to 25 kV in a microsecond pulse duration. The design of the electrode system ensures a high static breakdown across the inner surface of the ceramic chamber and protects the surface from deposition of the electrode material vapor.
