N2 - As a result of considering the interaction of an external electric field with free and bound charges that are in the volume of the salt solution in a polar dielectric fluid, an equation is obtained that describes the oscillations of an ion with respect to solvent molecules. Analysis of the equation showed that in the case when the amplitudes and durations of the half-periods of the sinusoidal field are different, the movement of the ion is a drift in the direction of one of the electrodes that form the field in the electrically insulated solution volume. The results of experiments on the excitation of the phenomenon of selective drift of solvated ions under the action of an external asymmetric electric field on a circulating solution of calcium and magnesium chloride salts in a polar liquid dielectric - in water are presented. The dependences of the separation efficiency of solvated cations on the frequency of the external field and the excitation threshold of the phenomenon on the value of the field strength in the separation cell are established.
