Аннотация

It is shown that the nature of the influence of the adsorbed cations on the adsorption of hydrogen changes on going from one metal to another, depends on the strength of the metal-hydrogen bond, and is determined by the competition between the cation and hydrogen for the surface and by electrostatic factors, that is, the polarity of the metal-hydrogen bond and the degree of ionic character of the bond between the metal and the adsorbed cation. The range of potentials of the predominant adsorption of the cations, on going from platinum to iridium and rhodium, becomes narrower and is determined by the position of the point of zero free charge for the given metal.
