The authors describe an acoustic pickup for measurement of the current density of a high-power ion beam. The sensing element is a TsTS-19 piezoceramic transducer. Results are given for use of the pickup in a system for diagnosis of high-power ion beams with a current density of from 0.1 to 1.6 kA/cm2, a particle energy of 660 keV, and a duration of 110 nsec generated by a magnetically isolated diode in the 'Vera' high-current accelerator of the Scientific Research Institute of Nuclear Physics of Tomsk Polytechnic Institute.
