An atomic probe technique in conjunction with an atomic attenuator was used to study the recombination of hydrogen atoms on the surface of Zn2SiO4-Mn composition. The recombination of hydrogen atoms was found to occur via both the Rideal-Eley and Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanisms. The contributions of these mechanisms to the total reaction rate were determined for various experimental conditions. The reaction rate was calculated from a nonequilibrium luminescence of the crystalline catalyst. This phenomenon is a variety of heterogeneous chemiluminescence, more specifically, radical-recombination luminescence.
