VPE treeing in pulsed electrical fields

Abstract

The results of an investigation into features of treeing in cross-linked polyethylene (VPE) in the needle-plane arrangement are presented. Experiments were performed, using pulse voltage of different front and pulse duration. Positive and negative pulses as well as series of different pulses were used in the 20-90°C temperature range. Space charge accumulation before treeing nucleation has been measured by means of pulses of acoustic pressure and by accelerated protons.
