Visualization metaphors

Abstract

This research is aimed to find the probable ways to formalize the visualization metaphors use. The application efficiency of this method is shown for practical tasks solution. Parameters with the relevant visualization and visualization metaphor are selected. The author gives examples illustrating stated assertions. On the basis of the mentioned arguments the general process scheme of visualization problem solution was created; it allows properly estimating and allocating resources (time, manufacture etc). The possibilities of lowering efficiency of visualization metaphor use appeared as a result of incorrect or unconsidered application of this method are discussed in the article. As a result of this paper author formulates the set of rules limiting process of visualization metaphor generation and application that allows using it as a valuable and effective tool.
