Abstract
In the paper an algorithm for estimating the deformation of solids at the mesolevel is studied and verified. It is based on the construction of displacement vector fields and calculation of strain components. The method has been verified by comparing strain components calculated analytically and using experimental data retrieved from model images and from images obtained by the television-optical measuring complex TOMSC in tension of metal and polymer specimens. It is shown that the estimates of strain components provided by the correlation analysis of the images agree well with the analytical calculation results with the known loading parameters and image sizes. The investigation results clearly demonstrate that the complex TOMSC can be used to estimate local strains through processing the images of loaded specimen surfaces.
