Abstract
The use of microsecond plasma opening switch for material surface modification was studied using two types of plasma sources, the gas-puff plasma guns and regular flashboards, both powered by a capacitor bank of 3 to 6 microfarads. The material modifications were done with several types of the steels, including stainless POS cathode electrode, and samples of P6M5 and CoW steel, distributed along the cathode. Microhardness measurements were performed and surface properties were analyzed.
