Type II string R4 terms from the cosmological perspective

Abstract

We revisit the gravity theory modified by the quartic-order terms of the spacetime curvature, originating from the type II superstring effects of the leading order in the string Regge slope parameter, from the cosmological perspective. We observe that the cosmological considerations severely constrain the well-known ambiguity of the Ricci-dependent terms in the superstring correction to the gravitational action.
