Topological characteristics of digital oil reservoir models at different scales

Abstract

We showed the importance of considering certain topological characteristics during geological and hydrodynamic modeling of oil fields: the weighted Betti numbers. The stability of the weighted topological characteristics was demonstrated for various realizations of digital heterogeneous anisotropic stochastic models of a real field. Dependencies of the weighted Betti numbers on excursion coefficients are obtained for these models. A similar behavior of these characteristics is obtained on a smaller scale: for a digital core model - a rock sample extracted from the well. As a result, it is suggested to use these characteristics as a tool for classifying geological models at different scales, regardless of the method a digital model is constructed with.
