The primary macrofragmentation of shear in compressed aluminum single crystals

    Abstract

    We have experimentally studied the pattern of a deformation relief formed on the side faces of an aluminum single crystal in the initial stages of plastic straining. The single crystal sample exhibits the formation of macroscopic fragments differing by organization of the shear process. The main factors determining the character of this macrofragmentation are considered.
