The multilevel gradient structure in a small-diameter rod of low-carbon steel heat-hardened from hot rolling

Abstract

Using methods of metallography, scanning electron and electron diffraction microscopy and constructing the microhardness profile we have studied the structure, phase composition and fracture surface of a reinforcing rod of steel St3ps heat hardened by interrupted hardening in an operating high-speed mill. We have revealed a multilevel gradient character and traced the changing of mechanical characteristics and structure parameters through the thickness of the reinforcing rod.
