Abstract
By means of electron microscopy, X-ray phase analysis and X-ray electron spectroscopy in combination with ion etching, powders obtained by electric explosion of brass wires have been investigated. Particles of such powders have been shown to be phase-inhomogeneous. The surface of the particles is basically covered with zinc oxide and then the layer consisting of brass β-phase followed by α-phase resides, i.e., copper content increases from the periphery to the center of the particles. Increase of energy injected into the conductor leads to particles inhomogeneity decrease, and their phase composition approaches the one of initial wire.
