The anomalous treeing resistance of proton-irradiated PMMA

Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the description of an interesting experimental phenomenon that was discovered in irradiated polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The breakdown voltage Vb and electric-tree inception (initiation) time τi, in PMMA were investigated under 50 Hz AC voltage after inhomogeneous proton irradiation. An anomalous relationship among Vb, τi and the proton free length (the depth of irradiation) R in PMMA was found.
