Target device for simultaneous irradiation of several specimens by ion beam in vacuum

Abstract

The author describes a compact target device for simultaneous irradiation in vacuum of four specimens by heavy-ion beams in activation analysis. Two target-holder designs are examined: with specimen rotation only about a common axis and with additional rotation of the specimens about their own axes. The target-holder is rotated by a magnetic drive from a variable-speed motor located outside of the vacuum chamber. Measurement results are given for activation of single crystals of LiF and metallic Be by beams of 14Ni3+ and 12C3+ ions from a U-120M cyclotron.
