Abstract

A technology of growing zirconia whiskers for producing high-strength ceramics was developed. The processes of precipitation of zirconium oxychloride crystals by cooling of supersaturated solution and by salting out with hydrochloric acid were compared. A method of producing zirconia whiskers from zirconium oxychloride without use of high temperature and high pressure is discussed.
