Abstract
Triosmium clusters with amino acid ligands (μ-H)Os3(μ-NHCH(R)CO2Et)(CO)10 (R is H or CH3) were synthesized. The stereochemical features of the ligand environment in the clusters were studied by 1H NMR. The complex (μ-H)Os(μ-NHCH(CH3)CO2Et)(CO)10 is structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. The compound, whose chemical formulais C15H11NO12Os3, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21, with Z = 2 and lattice parameters a = 9.194(6) Å, b = 8.716(4) Å, c = 14.913(8) Å, β= 104.20(3)°, V= 1158(1) Å3, and dcalcd = 2.774 g/cm3. A short contact of 3.19 Å occurs between the methyl carbon atom of the amino acid ligand and one of the equatorial CO groups, which seems to be responsible for a displacement of the nitrogen atom of the bridging ligand with respect to the midpoint of the Os(2)-Os(3) bond.
