The decay of plasma generated by a beam of accelerated electrons in He-Ne at pressures between 0. 5-3 atm. and with initial electron densities 2 multiplied by 10**1**4 minus 10**1**5 cm** minus **3 was studied showing that the decay is due to the dissociative recombination of Ne//2 plus ions The mechanism of producing these ions is attributed to charge transfer from Ne//2** plus ions to Ne atoms and the conversion of Ne** plus to Ne//2** plus during triple collissions with the atoms of the gas. The dependence of the effective recombination coefficient on the electron temperature and gas pressure was established.
