Abstract

The special features of chemical-mineralogical composition of topaz-containing raw materials and the processes of phase formation occurring upon heat treatment of topaz rocks with various ratios of the topaz and quartz components were investigated. It is shown that this feedstock can be successfully used in technologies for producing aluminosilicate ceramics of refractory and technical destination. It is established that the needle-shaped and fibrous mullites resulting from the topaz rocks decomposition can be used in different composites based on glass, ceramics, and polymers.
