Simulation of positron source based on the conversion of the electron beam generated by small-sized betatrons

Abstract

This work covers the possibility of development of a positrons injector based on the conversion of electron beam generated by small-sized pulsed betatrons for implementation in antibetatron. The following off-the-shelf small-sized pulsed betatrons were chosen as accelerating systems: MIB-4 and KRAB-10 with the energies of 4 and 10 MeV, respectively. Authors implemented physical and mathematical libraries Geant4 and CLHEP to numerically simulate the conversion of an electron beam at the target. Sources of the electron beams were off-the-shelf small-sized betatrons. The optimal thickness of amorphous targets was determined for Ta, W and Pt, which have the largest positrons yield. The spectral and angular characteristics were defined for the generated positrons for Ta, W and Pt converters. The off-the-shelf betatrons MIB-4 and KRAB-10 can provide the positron flux about 106 e+/s and 107 e+/s, respectively.
