Method of Dimensionality Reduction for compressible viscoelastic media. I. Frictionless normal contact of a Kelvin-Voigt solid

Abstract

Based on the Method of Functional Equations by Lee and Radok we present the application of the Method of Dimensionality Reduction to frictionless axisymmetric normal contacts with a compressible Kelvin-Voigt material. Both the contact between a rigid indenter and a viscoelastic medium and contacts between two viscoelastic bodies are studied. All mapping rules are given, strictly proven and illustrated by examples.
