N2 - Increase in generated power, integration of renewable sources of energy, increase in the portion of distributed generation are the current trends of the development of electric power systems (EPS). Protection of such systems is extremely complex and urgent task. It is confirmed by the statistic of accidents in EPS: about 25% of severe accidents are caused by wrong actions of relay protection (RP) and automation of EPS. This work is devoted to solving the problem of RPs setting through the usage of detailed models that take into account specific features of the RPs and processes in primary transducers. Such models in combination with an adequate simulator of EPS can be used for solution of other tasks: development and analysis of RPs algorithms, staff training etc. The article presents the results of preliminary studies of the mentioned problem.
