Sample preparation for analysis of enviroument objects based on electrochemical activation phenomenon of aqueous medium-rapid, reliable, accessiable, cheap

    Abstract

    Stripping voltammetry (SVA) is one of the best determination methods of Cd, Hg, Cu, Pb, Zn, Sb, Bi, As in environment objects. However, to reduce interfering effect of accompanying organic substances a state of sample pretreatment is necessary. The method of electrochemical sample pretreatment suggested and developed by us, is based on electrochemical activation phenomenon (EchA) of aqueous solutions. The method consists of EChPt of water samples containing inorganic salts by alternating current of definite form in anodic chamber of special construction membranous electrolyzer. It permits to reduce negative influence of matrix effects and to determine, for example, volatile elements without high temperature heating the solution. Stabilization of working the mercuric and solid indicator electrodes has been shown. This mode is used for determination of element forms in natural waters by SVA. The reasons of positive effects of EChPt were investigated. They are bound up with polyfactoric action of electric current on aqueous solutions. It results in appearing the high active chemical compounds, changing the energetic, structural, physicochemical parameters of the system EChPt sample - indicator electrode. Suggested method can be easily automatized and used in systems of water quality control in particular for flowing injection analysis. Toxic metals have been determinated by SVA in various waters, suspensions, bottom sediments, biological subjects using SVA. Reassuring results have been obtained also for atomic-absorbing and atomic-emissive spectroscopy.
