Abstract

The relation between the stacking-fault energy γ and the topology of the Fermi surface in metals and alloys is discussed. The features of γ in the transition metals and alloys are analyzed. Reasons are discussed for changes in γ when there are changes in the temperature, the short-range and long-range order, and the magnetic state.
