The theoretical study results are presented on the zones shadowing effect in focusing diffraction optical elements. It is shown that fabrication of a diffraction optical element (DOE) on a curvilinear surface allows one to considerably reduce the effect and increase the element surface use coefficient. The effect concludes in that for rather short-focused DOE, the phase profile step height of some zone overlaps a beam falling on the next zone.
