Radiation-induced expansion of CaF2 crystals

Abstract

1. Proton irradiation increases the volume of CaF2 crystals; this is evidence that intrinsic defects may be produced by the radiation. 2. The observed volume increase cannot be attributed to color centers which give rise to the absorption bands in this spectral range. The defects responsible for the volume change are apparently not reflected in this spectral range.
