Radiation induced charging and radical ion formation in phosphate glasses

Abstract

The properties of some alunimaphosphate glasses irradiated with 1.2 MeV electron beam have been investigated in line with charge accumulation effects. The kinetics of stored charge and external electric field change following the y = ax°exp(-bx) law, where a, b = const depend on chemical composition of glasses, energy and flux density of electron beam. A comparison of properties shows the charge decay due to a neutralization of PO2- 3 radical by PO2- 3 radical (hole trap), when its formation occurs in the area of an electron trap.
