Abstract

Educational programmes in Electrical Engineering at Tomsk Polytechnic University have centennial history of evolution that was associated with science development, inventions of new machines, modernization of technologies in electrical engineering industry, changes of the requirements to knowledge and skills of a graduate, his/her professional and personal competences at various stages of country's social and economic development. As a result of expanding and deepening cooperation with constituencies in the last decade, a novel system for continuous development of programmes structure and content was formed at the university mainly due to continuous external quality evaluation and programme accreditation by national and international professional communities. The formal result of this external examination was the national and international professional accreditation of the programmes, i.e. recognition of their high quality by national and world professional communities that contributed to the university competitiveness in the national and international educational markets. However the main outcome of the continuous external evaluation was the programmes evolution and enhancement of their quality which was gained during the preparation for the examination and programmes improvement in order to meet criteria of the accreditation agencies, and implementation of the external examiners recommendations on the programmes improvement for more complete fulfillment of the current and prospective requirements of engineering profession.
