Abstract
Computer simulation results of thermal-blooming for collimated and focused beams over vertical and horizontal atmospheric paths are discussed. The optimum source power is found to be increased ≈10 times when changing from horizontal to vertical paths. The efficiency is studied of different adaptive correction algorithms, such as, an prior predictive correction, phase conjugation of the beacon beam, and amplitude-phase control.
