Plasmon model for excitation of secondary atoms in ion sputtering (comparison with electron-exchange models)

Abstract

A comparison between the electron-exchange and plasmon models used to describe the excitation of secondary atoms has been performed. The revealed ill-defined parameters of the compared models enable us to infer that these models are nonequivalent and that their synthesis is required for a comprehensive description of the formation of outer atomic shells beyond an electron system of metal when an atom escapes from a solid.
