Physico-chemical state of surface layers and exploitation properties of VT18U alloy irradiated by high power ion beam

Abstract

Studies of chemico-physical and structural phase state of VT18U alloy surface layers under high-power ion beam of 20-160 A÷cm2 current density, diffusion vacuum annealing and post exploiting tests of fatigue limit, heat and dust errosion resistance were performed. Ion-beam treatment of the surface layer is shown to increase the impurity contents in surface layer and, as a result, to change the structural state, oxygen and aluminium concentration. The carbide formation has been observed. Optimal irradiation conditions (140-150 A÷cm2) cause the improvement of alloy exploitation characteristics. The fatigue limit increases by 10 %, cyclic endurance under 500° C and 370 MPa by 20 times, heat resistance under 550° C by 2.3 times and dust errosion resistance by 1.8 times.
